They didn't because the party needed a healer but it would have been hilarious if the new member was a Fiend-Patron Warlock.

Lots of comedic potential there.

No, none of them have any description at all. I was just referring to the fact that the D&D cartoon characters are a bunch of white kids with their token African American, to which WotC has now added the token generic ethnic girl (is she Native American? Hispanic? Indian? Malaysian?).

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that they're trying to be more inclusive here. Maybe it's because there's no context for any of these characters that it feels tokenistic to me? I'd much rather they strive for authentic inclusivity rather than tokenism.
Which would look like what, in comparison?
It reminds me of how Hasbro recently "retired" Mrs White from Clue and replaced her with Dr Orchid, a female Asian scientist ... cos, you know, that's neither on-the-nose nor stereotypical at all.
I'm pretty sure that both on-the-nose and stereotypical are required defining features for any Clue character.

Who is Niko?

Most of those make sense except Presto. I don't recall him using a single Evocation-type spell in the entire series. Conjuration makes the most sense for him, if you are going with the 2024 subclasses Abjurer or Illusionist is better than Evocation. Presto and Sheila should also not have the tough feat as they are not .... well tough

Listen, the struggle between wanting to represent characters accurately and building them so they're actually fun to play is very real, okay?

Not only that, but she's also the token generic Asian girl.
Using your post @pukunui to respond to the whole tangent on Niko.

Niko, IMO, is clearly coded as Asian. Not specifically any ethnicity other than broadly "Asian". I can see how that can appear as tokenism and ruffle some feathers. Although, the classic gang of kids is non-specific white Euro-American, plus Diana.

However, I don't see this character as an example of tokenism. A token ethnic character usually gets some level of development, but has few ethnic traits other than having a particular ethnic look.

NONE of these pregens get any development at all! Those of us familiar with the animated series know who the characters are, but in the context of the module, they all get equally zero character development. Which is usual for pregens in a D&D adventure. To the point where character names like Bobby, Presto, and Hank come off as incongruous with D&D fantasy!

WotC felt like adding a cleric to the team was a good move. In modern D&D, you don't NEED a cleric, but the class is still iconic to the game. Reasonable decision, IMO. They could have made the character another white kid, but instead purposely increased the ethnic and gender diversity on the team. We're up to three girls and two POC. I'm okay with this.

I do think adding a little context and information on each character, the classic gang and Niko, would have been cool and also avoided the taint of tokenism. Just a paragraph on who each character is would have been nice. I don't see this as a mistake on WotC's part, just something that would have improved this promotional adventure.

FWIW the pregens that came with the original LMoP had some backstory that tied them into the adventure. What they didn't have was names or genders.

Exactly!

FWIW I have no idea what you are trying to say here. As an aside, while I've never seen the Clue movie, that version of Mrs White (who does not look like a housekeeper!) seems to me like she could have served as the inspiration for Dr Orchid:

In the movie Madeline Kahn is the widow of a nuclear physicist - and three other men - who often feels overwhelmed (mad).

That certainly would work as inspiration for Asian Scientist Dr. Orchid
