Anti-gamer article

I have suspicion from the tone that she has a signifigant other who likes the Video Games (rather than one who likes going "antiquing", "heavy lifting" or "going to fancy restaurants to 'talk'")

Not that I have any proof, but if someone would give me odds, I have ten bucks to put down:)

This person sounds so bitter (and really uninformed) that I have to believe all her spewing is really from something much deeper in her psyche. Something happened to her at some point to make this such an explosive response. This rage must also extend into other facets of her daily life in general. Scary.

Someday she'll run across a gamer in shining armor who will melt her icy heart. :D

Replying this way a second time was simply sublime.

I, too, wonder what she does in her free time, as she has realized that she is in control of her destiny.

When so many people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours waiting outside the nearest Best Buy for the privilege of owning the latest high-tech gaming console, it says something about the modern world that isn't flattering. It says life in the real world, even as an educated, well-paid professional, is meaningless to us and we'd rather get lost in a totally unrealistic high-definition virtual universe. Uncool isn't the word. Pathetic is.

This seems non sequitur to me; If the evidence suggests something unflattering, perhaps she should consider that perhaps it is true. Not that I think life in the 'real world' is meaningless, but I found the ending to the article preposterous.

-The worst thing you can do with people like that is to pay attention to them. It only fuels their self-righteous rant. Notice that she doesn't mention what she does with her spare time. Obviously, she doesn't want the same sort of scrutiny applied to her personal life. I'm not much of a video gamer myself, but I don't tell others how to live their lives.
-I grew up in a small mid-western town where the social norm seemed to be dictated by self-righteous, middle-aged women who believed their own version of morality gave them the of authority to condemn and humiliate others. So much for enlightened freedom of choice.

Yeah, that's my job. Stop playing WarCraft and start playing Guild War. Stop buying iPods and all related "fashion" accessories. Don't be a mainstream. Don't betray your inner geek. :]
