any books on familiars out there?

It's probably not exactly what you are after, but E.N. Publishing's forthcoming Dweomercraft: Familiars sounds like the best fit.

coming from the Troll Lords

We have been deligently working on the Book of Familairs over in the Troll Dens. This book does more than scope out new possible familiars, but rather creates a well balanced game mechanic for each of the classes to gain familiars. You can read more about it here: http://trolllord.com/id182.htm

Its been a while in production, but we have had Jason Peck editing it and now bringing it up to 3.5 standards.

I notice on the page we have it 130 page hardback, but at last count it was 180 pages.

It should one heck of a source book and something completely different.

Sounds to me like that would be an excellent article for you to write up for Mongoose's new Signs & Portents magazine. I'm reading through Encyclopaedia Arcane: Familiars right now and am enjoying it immensely. Let's see some more familiars!

The february 2001 issue of Dragon had an article A little More Familiar: A Sorcerer's Best Friend It included new familiers such as the dog, fox, hare, lizard, mouse, otter, raccon skunk, and squirrel. Plus it included five feats and five spells. Its a pretty good article if you can get your hands on that issue.
