Have you looked at the Battle-Rager, from Heroes of High Favor: Dwarves?

It's found in the free web preview at badaxe games' website.

It features d12 hitdice, Toughness as a pre-req, and two good saving throws. It also grants some of the barbarian goodies such as minor damage reduction and greater rage... although it does prohibit the wearing of armor or use of shields.

Fun class, though.

Yup...

Yes, Savage species had one called the survivor. It's a 5 level class that (after 5 levels) gives Uncanny dodge vs flatfooted and flanked, evasion and improved evasion, and DR 5/-. It also has good saves in all three types.

However it also has d6hp, 2 skill points per level and NO bab advancement.

Opinions seem to be equally divided between "It's too weak" and "It's too powerful" so it's probably balanced.

Lots of good advice here. The Survivor sounds really good for taking after level 20.

The battle rager, OMG what a cool idea. Against the Odds is one of the coolest defensive abilities i've seen, +1 AC for everyone that threatens you.

Take Leadership and hire a Devoted Defender?

The survivor is overall one of the best for sheer defensiveness, the arguements primarily stem from if it is balanced, not that it is the paragon of defense primarily.

It's one drawback are admittedly the hit points.
