Any Eragon settings in production?

I just got done reading the first 2 books of the inheritance trilogy. BTW they were great. I was really impressed by the author's concept of magic and was wondering if anyone was making an RPG based on it.

None to my knowledge. I don't think they could get away with it, given how much borderline copyright infringement is in the Inheritance trilogy (Right down to places from Middle Earth with a single letter added to them). Even Paolini's magic system is completely stolen from Ursula LeGuin.

It's highly derivative. I have no idea why it sold as much as it did. There are better writers that deserve the attention.

I just saw the movie. I could have sworn it was (Star Wars/The Hidden Fortress) except with Dragons.

It even had the Tatooine Sunset scene, cept with only one sun. The only thing that was missing was a snarky golden sidekick for R2D2 Sephira.

I guess the kid that wrote it deserves some props though, he was like 14 or something when he wrote it; right?

Not to mention the storyline stolen directly from Star Wars ;)

To be fair, I wouldn't say it stole it. The Star Wars story is pretty much the basic form of dozens of heroic episodes thorought human history. Its pretty much a template at this point.

Agreed, to the me the movie (haven't read the book) basically just draw on every strong fantasy archetype in existance. Its what I call feel good fantasy.

I mean if you think about Star Wars is just a rip off of classic stories. A young boy with little prospects for a good future sudden finds out he has "magic powers", and that he's destined for greatness. He must combat the "evil emperor" across a number of strange lands and encounters many wonderful races. That's about a cliche as it gets:)

I believe he was 15 when he *started* to write the first book, and was 17 when he finished it. He certainly writes like a 14-year, though.

But Eragon does much more than use the basic template. So many details are almost exactly the same that it is clearly derivative. Yes, the basic storyline of Star Wars is a common one. But the similarity goes far beyond the basic storyline.

Eragon is certainly as whiney as Luke Skywalker. I really wished he would die by the end of the first book. I haven't read the 2nd.
