Any good Scifi+cyberpunk rpgs?

I agree with this. The settings seem intersting, but (IIRC) its somthing like $60 (maybe more)to get core rule + a setting. I think this keeps some intersted players away because $60 to try out something is kind of spendy. Heck, the $40 going price on most RPGs these days seem a little high but @ least many of them have a setting included.

Then just buy one of the setting books and use d20 Modern. They are dual-stat. Besides, the setting books have one of the highest information densities I have ever seen in RPG books. Buy either the Heavy Gear or Jovian Chronicles Player's Handbooks (or both!) - you won't regret it!

The Red Star

not exactly SF
But inspired and made of the stuff the insanely incredible comic book is made of
Can be pretty SF feeling or more Fantasy Feeling
Green Ronin once again for 3E d20
My copy is 1200 miles away at a friends house otherwise could quote more reasons to select it

or I was thinking a day or three ago we could kitbash up your perfect setting
and yes I am going more Transhuman/Singularity than straight up CP with each Stross or other current writer novel I check out

Well, if you boycott anything that is "powered by GURPS", then you are missing out on possibly the best science fiction that has been released in the last five years.

I know how you feel about GURPS Discworld, and I can understand it, but you are primarily punishing yourself by denying yourself this line. Please consider rethinking your boycott.

And I'm not just merely saying that because I got playtester credit... ;)

The more i hear about Transhuman Space the more i am tempted to get it. At least the "core book". I have no use for Gurps, but i just very recently got my hands on the Hellboy sourcebook and i've enjoyed what i've read so far (sans gurp mechanics). Though i do appreciate the fact that you can play the game with just the Hellboy book, even if i have no plans to do so. :)

Damn! I knew something got past my "don't forget to get this book" list. I liked the Red Star graphic novel that i have and meant to get the sourcebook. I love sci fi/superhuman books with religious connotations. Red Star is a very nice setting/background.

Well, don't hesitate. The full-color hardcover version of TS comes bundled with a specializes version of GURPS Lite which should allow you to understand enough of the mechanics to convert the setting to your favorite system (and if you get the softcover version, you can download that version of GURPS Lite from the SJG website). And most of the book is pure setting information anyway.

It's probably one of the most thought-provoking RPG settings out there. While it is unlikely that events will progress exactly like in the book (especially the speedy terraforming of Mars), this book will nevertheless make you see the future with new eyes...

Since Champions/HERO System has been mentioned a few times on this thread, I should mention Kazei Five from Hero Games. This is a setting and genre campaign sourcebook for playing an "anime-style" cyberpunk campaign using HERO. The setting features many of the classic cyberpunk elements - dystopian future, megacorporations, cyborgs, netrunning - but also incorporates elements from the treatment of the genre in Japanese manga and anime, such as physical mutations, formidable psionic powers, and mecha.

Kazei Five is available as a PDF from Hero Games's Online Store - 176 pages for $9.95. The book's author, Michael Surbrook, has put substantial samples from the book on his personal website, as well as short stories from this setting, and campaign logs from the PBeM game that the book is based on.

Kazei Five is written for Fourth Edition HERO System, but for this genre the differences between Fourth and the current (Fifth) Edition are pretty small.
