Any love for the Scarred Lands?

Made a long post and lost it.

But shorty. I love scarred lands, thematically awesome, lamer later books we didn't take seriously storywise.

I loved the titan&god angle, were fun to use in actual play to give some flavor to pc attitudes and later epic games were really interesting.

White Wolf never quite got 3rd system right, I loved R&R we lovingly call book of broken spells I and II. However their continual problems and editing errors with stat-blocks were quite irritating.

Best world ever, we use what we use of it, but nothing else has quite gotten me drawn into someone's else' setting quite like SL.

I just with they had kept up with original strong theme instead of trying to please everybody. Also, many freelancers didn't care to check for facts much. Some fluff was just plain wrong instead of being changed with purpose.

I really liked the way books were written. They were evocative and interesting to read, unlike most rpg books I have. Well Golarion has some good writing too, but I don't find that cosmos so awesome, it's just ok for me.

I was and still am a big fan of the Scarred Lands. Ran 3 full campaigns in it and still have all of my books and supplements (including the one I got published in Relics & Rituals 2 /shameless self-plug).

I may go back to it but in the mean time I've been getting my old school on with some of the Mystara gazetteer series.

I've got a number of Scarred Lands books and have really enjoyed reading them. Sadly, I've never had an opportunity to play in or run a SL game.

White Wolf didn't retire from the hobby cough*Vampire*cough, they just stopped making d20 supplements after losing the Gamma World and Ravenloft licenses.

I hope you are right. I know Masquerade is coming out, but I dont like the rumours I have been hearing about developements beyond that.

It could be interesting to see the Scarred Lands developed for an Exalted lite, or nWoD engine...

Never ran the setting, I really did not like the Titans angle, but I stole liberally from many of its supplements. Lots of great supplements just full of usable ideas to steal. Not to mention entire cities.

That is interesting. I was sort of fascinated by the Titans story myself. I wish they had taken it further. :)

Any particular supplements you would recommend?

While I'm not Treebore the one supplement I would personally recommend to every DM on the planet is Hallowfaust:City of the Necromancers. One of the true high water marks for the entire Scarred Lands run. I would also recommend Calastia: Throne of the Black Dragon and Edge of Infinity: the Scarred Planes (another excellent book).

About the only ones I would avoid would be Faithful & Forsaken (hated the meta-plot advancement in this) and Penumbral Pentagram (i think that is what it was called). neither brought much good into SL.

Solid recommendations!

Also, wasn't that Mithril City supplement part of SL? Or is that another setting? There were several books set around swamps (Blood Bayou?) that ended up having a lot of cool ideas and a couple of great villains in them.

Mithril City of the Golem was a fantastic book. I really liked that. And, for my complaining, I really did like the Shelzar book. They did the whole "city of evil" angle really well.

And, hey, the Ghelspad and Termana books are both quite solid as well.

And all three Creature Collections saw LOTS of use, even in my non-SL games. Heck, I still use them in my 4e games.

I loved the setting when it first came out due to the background material. The titans and godswar angle reminded me so much of Greek myth and it sparked my imagination. I lost that the more they added to the setting. It seemed to go in the opposite direction, and I lost interest. Sold most of my books off after they stopped doing the books.

My favorite 3.x edition setting - I liked it more than Midnight, Dawnforge, and probably Eberron, although they are comparable, I think. Never ran or played in it, though, just bought the setting books.
