Any MUDders Out There?

I ask, because just recently I found out that my favourite MUD from many years ago, The Hidden Grotto, has returned. If anyone is interested, the address is falconer.no-ip.info port 4100. I do not think you will be disappointed.

For anyone who has never played a MUD, it stands for Multi-User Dungeon. Basically, they are the text based precursors to MMORPGs like EverCrack, Guild Wars and WoW. The Hidden Grotto is a fantasy based MUD, and has races such as elves and drow, dwarves and duergar, and light and dark versions of many traditional classes.

I was heavily addicted to MUDding during college. I played almost exclusively on AlexMUD, one of (if not the?) the original DikuMUDs.

When last I checked, AlexMUD was still around (alex.stacken.kth.se 4000).

Yeah, I played DikuMUDs back in the day - just after college. I'd have never graduated had I known of them before that. I wound up playing 3 or 4 of them, and it was much fun. I even wrote a couple of zones for one of them.

I've played BatMUD (batmud.bat.org) for about 10 years, and it's one of the primeire LP muds, based out of Helsinki, Finland. And yea, a few weeks ago, I ran a night in my D&D game that simulated a mud combat/adventure. It kinda flopped, but was a lot of fun trying!
