Any Second Generation Gamers? Third Generation?

First Post
I was recently talking to a friend and he was telling me stories of how his father taught him to role play back in the early 80's making him a second generation gamer. I found it interesting since my parents just don't get the whole role playing thing at all. And as we were talking it occurred to me that while he doesn't have kids himself, he is old enough to have kiids that could start gaming. So, that would make them third generation gamers and that would be fascianting.

So, any second or dare I ask third gens out there? What was it like for you?

I'm a second generation gamer. My dad played in grad school, and when I showed interest in his books when I was six or so, he helped me make a whole party of characters and run them through the first level of a dungeon. I didn't actually start playing regularly for another 8-9 years after that, but the seed was planted, and I messed around with making characters and running combats for them whenever I didn't have anything else to do.

If I have kids, I'll definitely expose them to gaming as well.

We have a 2nd generation gamer in our group. Her mother used to play and she asks for game reports after a session now.

It's pretty cool since the rest of us come from RPGs are evil families.

I'd love to have at least a one shot with the 2 of them just to say we'd gamed with a mother/daughter group. But no such luck yet.

At least three of my friends are second-generation. No third-gen gamers yet... although two of those people will be married within a couple of years, so eventually they'll have little gamers with 3/4 grandparents being old-school gamers. ;)

I, a first-generation gamer, have taught both of my sons to play (making them second-generation gamers), and also my step-granddaughter, who's not much younger than my youngest son. (So that would make her, what, a second-and-a-half generation player? :))

Well, I taught my mother-in-law and my wife to play, and they did in a few games before I met Henry and our current gaming group. My wife has played a couple of times, since, but not my mother-in-law. She liked it, but is rarely around to do so anymore, and the sort of game I was running for the group she was in (mostly beginners in our family and friends) was much simpler than my current group's usual fare. My son plays with our group regularly, and my daughter has played in a few games I've run at home. So I guess that would be three generations, although definitely not the father-to-son sort of passing down I think you're talking about.

One of the other guys in our current gaming group's mom played in the same games as my mother-in-law. So there's a two generation set, but again, backwards.

My first DM was the father of my best friend when I was in the 4th grade, and he taught all three of his kids - and while I unfortunately don't know any of them anymore, I'd bet that at least one of them taught/will teach their kids, if any......

My best friend and co-dm is a second generation gamer. He's taking a break from gaming, but his mom is currently a player on my table.
