Any Tips for GenCon?

LATHER,

RINSE,

REPEAT.

Please. For the love of God.

heh - reminds me of the RPGA Members meeting a few years back.

Random Bigwig: "There will be a one hour break between the first and second half of the Living City Interactive."

Crowd: "What will we do for a whole hour! We will be so bored!"

Crowdpleaser: "Take a shower!" :D

AIEEE!

I almost forgot!

When you are there, try to get into the Safehouse! If you like going to pubs or bars, the safehouse is a great place to go! It's a Spy-themed bar, that has been a Gencon staple for decades! In fact, many publishing deals and other projects have been born over beers at the safehouse.

The problem is getting the secret password to enter... :)

Sadly, when Gencon moves, this institution will be gone...

If you want to have any money to spend on gaming stuff, don't buy food at the con center. You actually don't have to go too far to get a good deal, however. I found a number of the surrounding hotels serve pretty good food in their bar areas.

IIRC one of the better meals I had was at the Hilton bar. More fries and hot wings than I could eat for about the same price as a hot dog and bag of chips at the con.

Do not undervalue sleep.

There's a great tendency to want to stay up and not miss anything. But, after even only a day of this, you'll lose your ability to appreciate most of it. Everything will be colored by the fact that you are tired. A few hours to catch a few Zs are agood way to help you enjoy everything else.

Also, keeping up on sleep will mean less recovery time after the con. If you don't sleep much while at the con, the workweek afterwards will be very nasty.

Eat balanced meals. Grease is not a food group. Make sure you get some significant vegetable matter - those vitamins go farther than caffiene in keeping you perky. Also, keep yourself hydrated, for similar reasons. Most folk don't get enough fluids even under normal circumstances. Dehydration increases fatigue, tends to cause headaches, and the like.

How does one go about getting into the safehouse. Do you have to be in the know to get the password?

Safehouse is three blocks away, can be hard to find, just look for Inport/Exports :) and NO ONE IS GOING TO TELL YOU THE PASSWORD!

When you go in, you will be asked the password, IF you do not know it...they have you do something stupid/crazy/weird to gain entry. That is broadcast via hidden camras to everyone already inside. :)

I've lived here seven years. My wife still won't tell me the password, so I've never been. :D
