Any way to get precision based damage > 30 feet.?

A sneak attack with a spell that deals ability damage or negative levels does not add +xd6 negative levels; rather, it adds +xd6 negative energy damage to hit points.

Sorry, A sneak attack that deals ability damage does not add negative levels?.... did you miss something *not trying to be snarky here*.. i just want clerification to know if theres a rule im missing that says sneak attack doesnt do ability damage

Read Complete Arcane. It's in there. I'd post it verbatim, but I don't know if that's exactly kosher around here. And thanks for pointing out that you're not being snarky. It's very easy to read too deeply into a person's posts without being able to hear their vocal inflections and such.

Oh, and about the OotBI PrC, the 10th-level pinnacle is the ability to apply the class' Ranged Precision dice (5d8 at 10th level) and Sneak Attack dice (if he has them) out to 60 feet. Sensibly enough, it doesn't mention "double" anything.

You can sneak attack with weaponlike spells.

A weaponlike spell is one that a/ requires an attack roll, and b/ deals damage, where 'damage' includes hit point damage, ability damage or drain, and negative levels.

If the spell deals hit point damage, your sneak attack d6s are damage of the same type - cold, fire, force, piercing, whatever.

If the spell deals ability damage/drain or negative levels, your sneak attack d6s are negative energy damage (like an Inflict Light Wounds spell would deal, for example).

So if you hit someone with an Enervation spell, you deal 1d4 negative levels, +3d6 negative energy damage to their hit points... not 1d4 +3d6 negative levels.

Ray of Enfeeblement isn't a weaponlike spell - in fact, it's the example used of 'not a weaponlike spell' in Complete Arcane.

Remember, as well as requiring an attack roll, the spell must deal damage, and Ray of Enfeeblement doesn't. It inflicts an ability penalty, which is neither damage nor drain.

As for the scenario I suspect you were proposing - managing to actually deal negative energy damage to an undead creature via a sneak attack, which would require something along the lines of Gravestrike to achieve in the first place - it's unclear what the result would be. After all, Disrupt Undead channels positive energy, but doesn't heal living creatures; it's not guaranteed that negative energy damage will automatically heal undead unless it's stated in the effect description.

(Actually, I misstated when I said 'like Inflict Light Wounds' earlier - upon checking, it appears that ILW channels negative energy in order to deal untyped damage, not negative energy damage.)

Healing is not damage.

Negative energy heals undead

or am i living in second edition?

Im reading tomb tainted soul (feat) right now, and it states that negative energy heals you..............

Maybe sneak attack and other precision based damage should never have been given a single concrete range? Maybe it would have made more sense to tie it to the range increment of the weapon in use?

That way if you're using a no increment melee weapons you need to get up close and personal but if the weapon has an increment you can stand off some distance and get the bonus while still differentiating between ranged weapons.
