Any word on the next DnD figures?

This will likely be the first time in years I actually buy minis retail. I'm looking at a couple of cases: one full set of the Player minis and a full set of all visible monster minis. Then I'll be trading for the ones I miss.

Their new plan is risky but it might....just....work!

Hah, I've got a freaking army of fiendish tyrannosauruses!

ALL the minis in the various "4e" sets are easily used in a 3e game, if not the actual stats on the card. For the few monsters that did not exist in prior editions of the game, just make up new stats for 'em. I have already used elemental archons as simple elementals on my table.

I don't like my elementals to be so "metal" and I have absolutely no use for most of the angels, in any capacity. As for the rest... that is just so many more figures I might use once or twice. I might spring for a few sets that are showing classic monsters, like a real beholder, but otherwise I will probably be cherry picking the secondary market. Meanwhile, I'll guess I'll catch up on the rest of the pieces I like.

And, of course, once I get some more work done on my thesis, I am going to start painting metals again. :)

I can't help but notice... with oil being cheap, and with the economy expected to slowly pick up over the next couple of years, this is a great time to be starting a new miniature line, whatever the business plan is.

I'm missing me some new maps too...

@ JohnnyQuest:

Here's an idea: How about puting special mini-poster maps inside each DDM 2009 pack/booster? The Heroes pack look like they are about the same size or slightly smaller than the 2008 Starter Set, so it's a possibility, no?

I think it's a great idea, but I think I'd annoy a lot of people by breaking open the packs and stuffing a map inside ;) Seriously, I have zero influence on how WotC packages its product BUT I can tell you that there will be ways to get your grubby mitts on new maps!

What? WHAT?!?!

This is what they're changing to?

Are they insane?

Nobody buys the goddamn minis for PC pieces! Everyone I've ever been involved with in the minis community buys them either to play the DDM game or for monsters in their D&D game.
I don't know if not consulting "everyone Kzach knows" officially qualifies one as insane. Their consumer research may not hold a candle to yours, but they claim it does indeed indicates that players actually do like to have minis for their PC's. Their figures also showed that far more people bought the minis for RPG than for DDM, which flies right in the face of all the boldly confident assertions made in this forum about D&D minis consumption.

All that aside, this does indeed have a lead balloon quality to it simply because $11 is too much to pay for three minis of relatively the same type (with wizards stuck in their arcane pack and fighters off in their martial pack).

Nobody's mentioned it yet, but aren't they planning to CCG-up D&D a bit by packing the heroes with unique power cards that you can't get anywhere else?

Don't flame me. I could be wrong about that, but I thought for sure I read that on the WotC website.

I don't remember WotC making any announcements about whether or not there will be any more Thrilling Locations products, but at least their adventures still have some poster-maps.
