Anybody here play on MUDs (Multi-User Dungeons)

I'm not sure how popular these are anymore, but anybody play on MUDs? For those of you who don't know what they are, they're a text-based game from back in the day, before nifty graphics became commonplace. You go around in a world, using commands like, "north", "south", "east", and "west" to navigate the different directions. You can interact with other players, do all the normal D&D stuff like casting spells, fighting monsters, getting new eq, drinking potions, and pretty much whatever else you want to do.

Anybody have any favorite MUDs that they use? Mine right now is telnet://hypercube.org:9000

For anybody who hasn't tried them and doesn't have an exceptionally short attention span, I'd recommend it. Sure it doesn't look super flashy, but it's still a blast to play. And, since it's all text, it halfway looks like you're doing work (I used to play at the office all the time).

I used to play on Crucible City MUX, a Mutants & Masterminds mu*. It's the only one I every played, and I'm not currently playing. Too time intensive.

I used to play Carrion Fields and Avendar. Yes they are good fun, in fact I was more addicted to CF than I ever was to any of the pay to play modern online games. I spend half my high school years on CF. I still would like to get around to opening a MUD, as game development is my intended career choice. I owe what programming skills I have today to MUD development, and more importantly programming concept.

I used to be an immortal in BatMUD, but sort of fell out of it a few years ago. It's a great, if dangerous, place to go to if you happen to be into MUDs. Just stay away from the cute bunnies, they can kill anyone.

Knowing the people involved the Photos and Artwork section may contain not work safe material. ;)

I used to play them and I wrote subroutines and tweaked code for MUDs when I should have been doing something more productive in the computer lab. A long time ago.
I was playing chess in a MUD hosted somewhere in sweden at a computer room in the University of Lowell when the first gulf war started.

Ancient Anguish

I've played Ancient Anguish (AA) off and on since 1993. The MUD is completely user donatation supported and boasts a large following. The website is www.anguish.org - where you can find all the details about the game.

Pretty fun place if you ask me :)

Taren Nighteyes a.k.a. Brimstone on AA!!!

Every so often, I'll head back to Achaea to play. But like most MMORPGs, I don't enjoy PvP, so I drift away. That and they're huge time sinks. Hmm, I wonder if the old Planescape MUSH is still going?

I used to play on a Wheel of Time MUD about 10 years ago. It was lots of fun, but like others have said, it's pretty time intensive and I don't have the free time anymore.
