Anyone can give me a short review of this Geanavue?

Hello,

I`m having my players arrive now in the capital of my campaign, and i was recommended the Freeport supplemental.
Hoewever i also happened upon the Kalamar: " Geanavue - Stones of Peace ", however i havent used a Kalamar-product before.

I don`t have the time to create an absolutely new all-by-myself background for my capital, so i was asking what you think of this Geanavue - Project.

My capital is a major port, the Place where the King resides and a place where Politic, intrigue and Nobility are important. My campaign has a very medieval-like style.

So what do you think of this Product ?
Is Geanavue fitting for my campaign ?
Or is this freeport better ?
Or do you know one, which could fit better ?

Thanks in advance,
L.

Kalamar is lower magic. and with different emphasis. if you are going core rules i say try freeport. if you are going for a long campaign. i like the kalamar stuff better. but you will need to do some work. which obviously means doing more than just buying it. ;)

This posters opinion is to just use forgotten realms.

You need a costal, major port city, where there is tons of polotics, intrigue, and noblity?

Waterdeep is one.
Suzail in Cormyr is another (it has a port right?)

Algarond kinda fits but not so much.

For waterdeep just replace Khelben with a King or Queen and the Masked Lords are his court of nobles.

Boof, perfect city.

Freeport is a pirate city on a coast.

Genavue is by Ed Greenwood, author/Creator of the Forgotten Realms, but is written for the Kalamar setting.

Streets of Silver by Living Imagination a sort of renaissance era city and Bluffside (originally by Thunderhead games, now by MEG and available as a pdf as well) a high fantasy one are also available.

I don't have any of them so I can't really comment on their quality but all are highly developed and detailed.

well concerning te lower Magic, Kalamar might be better, because in my campaign, magicians are rare and frowned upon, because the Pepole were once enslaved by mighty magicicans.

So what do you think ?

Based on what you noted in your post, Geanavue should work nicely.

I thought it was a pretty good product, and described the city, politcs, and society quite well. Note that while Geanavue is a port city, it's not right along the water - there is a small (unmapped) settlement in the shadow of Geanavue that acts as the port.

Freeport is a little rougher - as a poster noted, it's pretty much a pirate city.

I don't have the product so I can't help you with that, but you might get more people that do if you edit the thread title to include Geanavue

Kalamar is of course found here:

www.kenzerco.com
Geanavue is pretty close to Aasaer, the pirate city in the Reanaaria bay... many groups simply put Freeport there instead.

Geanavue is not exactly a capital, but a nice little city for itself... so no big problem to make it the seat of a small kingdom.

The city is pretty peaceful and artisan-oriented... bunch of happy workers there.

Freeport is actually on a island, though I suppose you can move it easy enough.

But "Streets of Silver" for the Twin Crown setting might fit your needs better.
