If you advocate 3e, but are willing to see that other systems have benefits to them, and may even be superior in some ways (ie, you do not claim that 3e is the end-all of gaming and that previous editions suck, etc), then you are not what I would call a zealot...more of an advocate or a follower of your preferred gaming system.
I don't really care for 3e all that much. Sure, it has some good things to it, the biggest being that it has brought more gamers about. However, I just find it too rules-heavy (mechanics are good...to a point) and cumbersome to enjoy playing without dropping out some things and leaving more to the dungeon master. 3e seems to make the DM less useful, and turns him more into a glorified module-reader than a referee.
Expressing your preferred gaming system is a good thing, but you should be prepared to back up your comments. It also helps if you don't limit your vision of things, and fail to see things because of either pride or anger.
I take offense at that statement. I'm a 3E zelot, to be sure, but have neither a wish for conformity nor a "one-size-fits all mentality". I haven't resorted to name-calling in this thread or the many others like it.
Still, I do think Third Edition is vastly superior to previous editions in many ways. While there are *some* benefits to older versions, I find them few and far between in comparison to the benefits of the new system.
