D&D 5E Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

And it is all just in flavor text... ie STORY.

Any power that lays down the killing blow could arguably get flavor perks. Imagine a cinematic cut scene in a way.
What you refer to as "story" is the actual reality of how that world works. This isn't some silly movie that operates by narrative convention. This is a real world that we're imagining our characters live in, and that level of magic is beyond the scope of what makes sense for a consistent fantasy world.

A sacred cantor who curses his adversaries and turns elements from the song of creation against his enemies unmaking them is entirely consistent in story. ... this is also rather difficult to pull off ie slow... unless the enemy is already weak low on luck and about to not be a part of the world story anyway. (ie low on hit points)

An IMPRACTICAL effect would be if a snippet of the song of creation unraveled the characters past... NOW that would result in time travel like inconsistencies that would undermine your story consistency.

Hit Points are real. Real people have different tolerance to injury. If you don't understand that the mechanics of the game reflect the reality of the game world, then I pity you.

LOL Big bad Marines have died of minor wounds .. human response to injury is so erratic a "realistic system" would be based on saving throws entirely

Hilarious

Hit points are a narrative convention incarnated within mechanics specifically from heroic fiction it has a nice effect of allowing significant characters to remain part of the story by mechanic support instead of the fluky erratic realistic effects.

i like them because they are NOT simulationist.... err realistic might actually be the word I wanted
