Anyone glanced at the new Character Sheets on the WotC site?

For the record, I am the author of the "Rat's eTools Character Sheet" so at least in my case, I have some basis of comparison =P

My own Delux character sheet is 4 pages long, but is, IMO, better-organised than that mess. Skills, feats, ability scores, basic character background/traits all make it on the first page. The second is combat, the 3rd is magic, and the fourth is Misc - languages, weapon prof groups, equpiment (taking up more than 1/2 the page), money, carrying capacity and a Credits section.

If there's any call for it, I could post up a copy.

I have always used and probably will always use my own character sheets - I do them up in Word with copious use of lovely, lovely tables. It's easy to just shift things around as the need arises.

Sounds pretty similar to the Wizards character sheets. :)

I'm looking at the Wizards sheets now. As far as aesthetics go, they're not great. Actually, they're pretty ugly. However, there are things I really like about them. The breakdown of the ability scores (Total = Base + Enhancement + Misc bonus + Misc penalty) is very nice. Having a lot of space for hit points/XP will delight my players.

The skill synergy list is something that is just useful - especially as the skill list also includes all the psionic skills.

The special abilities/spells/rage page can easily be substituted out by a custom-designed one. Lots and lots of room for equipment? Great - especially having the item slots listed!

If I was playing a game, I'd probably have two or three of the sheets spread out in front of me (esp. page 1 "Combat" and page 4 "Skills/Feats").

What I really like about them is that there is enough space to write the modifiers and see them without resorting to microfonts!

Cheers!

Ironically they are, but looking at the wizards sheets they don't seem to be fitting on a lot of info for the space it takes up. I looked at a full-page veiw of mine and their, and I seem to have a better set-up, IMO.

You know, this kinda reminds me that I have planned to make a thread with my character sheet and a poll in it, and get some feedback on it. Maybe I'll do that now, and see what comes of it.

They don't look that bad. I don't need beatiful artwork on my CS thats going to get trashed. They page layout means nothing, because I can stack and print any way I want. I love having the synergy bonuses on the skill sheet. All in all, not bad...IMO.

Word. ;)

These sheets are butt-ugly and not very user-friendly. I'll stick to my own sheets or HeroForge.

It looks like somthing that I might hack apart for some sheets. The front page is horrible IMO but not all of it is bad. It just needs some TLC.

As someone who does a bit of design and layout in my day job, I find them just plain ugly. As far as information presented, I frankly do not like their choice of what goes where. Skills should not be relegated to the back of the sheet. Since they insisted that skills and feats are a crutial part of the most current editions, why not make them more accessable?

I could go on, but I will leave it on a personal note. I frankly do not like psionics, and do not use them in my game. So, all the psionics stuff is simply a waste of space. There's enough wasted and poorly used space on these sheets as it is.

I don't mind skills on the back so much. It reminds me of the old deluxe 4 page character folders where the two main pages were the front and the back (and you opened it to see the "inside" two pages). This allows a combat oriented front sheet and a skill oriented back sheet.
