Well of course not. How could it hit epic if you...

Oh, I highly recommend it! It's a very well written module with a break-neck pace, though at times, it can slow down to put emphasis on the story. Lot's of NPCs (most you kill quickly though ;)), interesting monsters, nasty traps, etc.

One of the cooler things about the module is that you can easily run a party of evil drow through it. The adventure pretty much stays the same but the perspective and overall goal of the party is different. I thought that was awfully damn cool in and of itself. It's not very often that you find a module written that well.

James Wyatt has most certainly outdone himself this time. :D

DISCLAIMER: The usual disclaimers apply...

1) If you are sick and tired of drow, please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.
2) If you are sick and tired of Forgotten Realms, please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.
3) If you are sick and tired of dark elves being called drow, keep in mind this is for the Forgotten Realms, so please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.
4) If you think everything Forgotten Realms is broken, please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.
5) If you only rag on this book because you're just pissed that you're poor and can't afford this book until you get your next allowance installment from mommy or daddy, please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.
6) If you just love to rag on any book that you don't have yet, but the very instant you finally get your grubby little hands on it you then begin vomiting up more praise than a Witness at an airport, please, don't piss and moan. Just find another thread to post in.

Other than that...all comments welcome.
:D

What kind of party do you recommend?
You already said that a party of evil drow can go through it, and surely a party of non-evil drow can do it, too.
But can you play it with a party of non-drow underdark dwellers/charakters with darkvision (maybe svirfneblind, dwarf, half-orc, tiefling)?
Can you play it with a party of non-underdark dwellers? Say, with some humans, elves and halflings in the party?

Many of the normal races would usually be in trouble in a drow city.
I ask because I want to start a campaign where I make some introduction myself and then play City (they'd start around 6th - 8th level), and I want to pin down alignment restrictions (maybe any nongood) and available races (probably only characters with dark-vision, be it inherent or vial magic. I don't want to force them to use none but drow).

Also, in the Web enhancement, they give Stats for Kiaransalee (ascended to lesser deity). Do any other drow deities play an important role in the Module (either through massive meddling of worshippers or even through appearance of an avatar, or even personal)? Are stats for other deities given (Vhaeraun, Ghaunadaur, Selvatarm)?

I do not like the epic rules, yes. I do not use many magic items either, and prefer a more "down to earth" campaign. I do not see myself DMing a campaign where the PCs have the power demonstrated in the epic handbook, or even a campaign where the PCs have the "standard level 20 power". Handling that many powers and spells would be too much work for me. I prefer working on plot and NPCs, not on countering magic items, powers and spells.

I aim for an "epic feel" in my campaigns by letting the PCs gain fame and fortune, and a few powerful magic items, and accomplish great deeds, but great deeds, for me, are not linked to level 20+. My whole world (a modified FR) is toned down, so the party can save the kingdom at level 12 and should be able to feel like epic heroes.

In a way, it is a bit "1E" - after level 10 you are at the top, but maybe not the best there is.

You can run the module with any kind of party you like. Even surface races are fine. Actually, it was designed for that very purpose, to run a traditional surface-dwelling party of heroes that go down into the underdark to prevent a war and the needless slaughter of innocents on the surface. Being able to run it with drow is just a nifty bonus. :)

The party that will be in my game consists of a elven ranger/fighter (surface), drow fighter (surface/underdark), drow rogue/assassin (underdark), an NPC cleric (haven't decided what race or where he/she will come from), and a spellcaster of some type (the player is still working on ideas.

Sweet. I need to grab that in case that frickin' ranger decides to fight her damn avatar or something. :D

I'm not sure. I'm still going through and converting all of the encounters. A good portion of the hard work is already done. They reuse the same stat-blocks here and there, so once you create one drow fighter or one drow spellguard, you can pretty much reuse it later on. At the worst, you might have to add a level or two later.

Ghaunadaur does have a small following in the first part of the module, but it's negligable. The followers of Kiaransalee have the entire city in the first part of the module in near-total lockdown, so other faiths are not tolerated in the slightest.

I'm planning on it, though My party really does not seem to be. I have been running for 9-10 months and the party gains about 1 level a month (Pushing 10th now). I really have a hard time seeing where 2-3 of the characters will end up in the epic levels, But a couple will shine.

There are about 4-8 story threads that I had in mind towards the beginning of the game, and none of them are exhausted yet. Heh, one of the things I had half thought would be wrapped up by now has continued to evolve into a more interesting problem on the sidelines. If left alone long enough, it might be something they take care of in epic levels.

Ah, good. That means I have all ways open!
