Anyone good with Excel want to take up the challenge?

Anyone want to try and create an 4th Edition character generator? I'm "ok" with Excel, but I know a lot of people are better.

Someone on the Star Wars SAGA board made a great generator for SAGA. Maybe someone can use it as a base? The link is:

If that doesn't work, you can find the link in this Wizard's thread:

Anyway, would be cool if someone would take up the challenge...

I've got a good excel spreadsheet. It's not done yet, but it's pretty close.

But ... I don't think it's OGL compliant. So I don't think I can give a pointer to it.

Wait a sec! Are you saying that fan created documents, offered to the community without charge, are restricted by the OGL? I thought it was only for publishers who agreed to the license!

(I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.)
As long as you're not attempting to publish it under the OGL, there shouldn't be a problem; in fact, the OGL specifically does not pertain to software, websites, etc. As long as you make it clear that the excel sheet isn't made by WotC, endorsed by them, etc. there's nothing really stopping you. The OGL does not supersede standard fair use.

Ninja'd by Scalding: Correct, there's no way that you can be legally bound by a license you never agreed to. The OGL offers exemptions to the standard restrictions of copyright and trademark law - that is, you can use a certain WotC trademark and reproduce certain copyrighted material in exchange for agreeing to WotC's OGL terms. If you're not reproducing an excessive amount of copyrighted text or misrepresenting the origin of your character sheet, there should be no issue.

There is one already out there that is not that bad at all. I have used it and love it.

Heroforge

Check it out. There is a slight learning curve, and I mean slight. But its easy and prints off some nice looking character sheets

Tho a great sheet, that isn't Heroforge (they are working on one as well, but it's not out yet..http://www.nzcomputers.net/heroforge/default4e.asp)...it's named similarly (characterforge) which might be the source of the confusion.

I just posted Heroforge since it is the website name that comes up. I could easily have put any generic text in there. I will go change it to something less specific
