Anyone heard the Sharn Soundtrack yet?

Well, I'm probably going to pick up Sharn this week, so I'll know first hand, I suppose. I heard the three sample tracks last night. "Cut to the Chase" was alright, but nothing exceptional, I didn't really like "Exploring Xen'drik" too much; it was too sparse and Spartan for my taste, but I thought "Sharn: City of Towers" was about as good as anything I've heard on a movie soundtrack. Excellent track altogether.

I downloaded the samples and if you enjoy ambient music and soundtracks these should suit you fine. I'd recommend most Eric Serra albums over this particular bit of music but that's just me.

Currently, I mix up Gladiator, Last of the Mohicans, Signs, Sleepy Hollow, Draclua, End of Days and a few others for a real creepy feel. I mix in a bit of Troy and Last Samurai and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for a slightly exotic feel.

And of course, you can't go wrong with the three Lord of the Rings soundtracks.

Even though I have read that the movie sucks, try the Alexander soundtrack. The music is really good.

NO melody

The problem with the music on the Sharn soundtrack is that most of the songs have no melody. Really more of a collection of repetitive sounds that fade in & out.

I'm definitely not ignorant of music created soley by electronic means, in fact, I have an ongoing collection of over 2000 records ( mostly wax, not CD ! ). Silk Road this is not.

Not horrible. Just not great.

Yeah, that was my impression. This is almost too ambient in style; too mood and not enough music. Not bad, but not likely to displace my movie soundtrack collection that I currently use while gaming. It was about like a pretty good fantasy video game would have for a soundtrack, I'd say.

Then again, I heard it with a music major, so I got the more in-depth criticism than I myself would have made. ;) Great book, though. Really enjoying it so far.
