does anyone know the name of this virus that I've picked up?

It seems to have installed a program that sends emails advertising viagra from my system when ever my cable modem is on. my avast email shield has detected it sending packets of a dozen or so at a time, and has stopped 2000+ transmissions in the last 2 hours.

It isn't using my outlook or my yahoo address, and seems to have a list of people like "jenifer@viagra somehting" and has the message title "Best onlinehelp"

anyone know what this is so I can find a removal program?

It could be any number of things.

Have you run a virus scan yet? If not, please do so.

I'm at the lab right now, so I don't have the link I want in front of me, but when I get home, I'll give you a link to a pretty comprehensive guide to cleaning your computer.

As LightPhoenix said, try to do a full computer scan first with what you already have, i.e Avast, and, of course, make sure it is updated first. :D

Do you have an anti-spyware program? If so, do a full comp scan as well....

If you do full comp scans and they do not solve the problem here are two possible routes:

1.) You could try downloading some free antivirus scanners from places like Symantec or F-secure or McAfee if your own protection ain't doing the trick.

2.) If you do not have a spyware program ... lessee ... Spybot Search and Destroy is a popular tool. So is the free AVG spyware program. Here are some links.

Hope these help some.

Mod Note: These should probably be in the tech forum?

Edit: Gah! PC beat me to it!

turned out I had 3 problems.

1 Nat still not sure what that was, spybot search and destory caught it in safe mode.

2 Win32.small.dp same as above.

3 TrojanPorxy.Skopa.100 Caught and removed by trojanhunter in safe mode. syptoms have not reappered after restart. According to the writeup on the virus, this seems to be the most likely cause of the problem.

I use avast, AVG, and now Trojan Hunter.

Damned irritating. I just upgrade to Firefox 2 and installed an extention that stops scripts.
