D&D 3E/3.5 Anyone lose their enthusiasm with 3E or purchasing 3E products?

I know I have...

Why buy the newest 3E book, knowing it will be outdated in 7 months? Why would WotC even bother making more 3E books at this point? I think they advertised 4E too soon.

I think they should have waited maybe 1 - 3 months before they were ready to release 4E before they announced it. Anyone agree/disagree with this?

We just started a new Ravenloft campaign (which I am excited about, don't get me wrong), but previous to this, when 4E was announced, suddenly playing 3E games lost some of its luster. Am I alone in this one?

Anyway, just curious what others think/feel.

(Patiently waiting for 4E :))

Edit: I am mainly addressing the people that were (a) still into D&D 3E up until the point 4E was announced and (b) people who ARE interested in 4E since hearing the news and (c) people who still have current 3E D&D campaigns running (and are interested in 4E).

Speaking of Ravenloft, you know if they bring back the setting Strahd is going ot need major, major retconnjing since much of his entire background relies on the old magic system and the specialist skool of necromancy.

Hmmm, the new Strahd will be a Tiefling Vampire Warlock. :)

I decided after Complete Champion that I wasn't going to buy any more WOTC 3E products. This purchase was about a month before the 4E announcement, and that pretty much solidified my decision.

I don't see the sense in continuing to sell 3E products right now, but WOTC is a business first, and they've got a payroll and overhead to meet. I guess some people don't know (or care) that 4E is coming out, so that's a possible market for additional 3E products.

I lost my excitement for 3E a long time ago, which is why I'm so psyched for 4E. It's all talk at this point, but so far it sounds like they're trying to address most of the issues I have with the game.

Disagree. If they sold a PHBIII (for 3.5E) in March '08 and then released 4E in June, there might have been bloodshed. This way is better.

Also, they want to sell A LOT of 4E Core rulebook sets immediately. They don't want a ramp-up. They want to be able to sell their H2 Adventure to a "fully installed and operational" player base by GenCon '08. To do that they need to pre-market the game for good while to make sure there are people lining up to buy it in June. You can't get that kind of purchasing commitment on two months of marketing.

Being a Warlock would actually fit his back-story a lot better than being a wizard. It's clear (from the books) that he made an Infernal Pact.

But not the Tiefling part. No need for that. Though his humanity is lost, he is human by birth.

Simply because my group may not be moving to 4e. In which case buying 3e products now is pretty important, as soon they'll all be gone.

In terms of relations with the retailers and 3rd party publishers, waiting that long would have been a disaster. These folks need time to make business plans (especially the publishers).

WotC 3e books? Yup.

3rd-party d20/OGL books? Nope.

But then most of my d20 purchases were always Green Ronin, Paizo, & Mongoose and I'm not planning on switching to 4e anyway.

Any WotC purchases will be from the local Half-Price Books store.

Umm, none of the D&D books were printed in such small numbers as to disappear from the market in the immediate future. Why buy them now when they'll be dramatically marked down in a few months? They're not going anywhere.
