Anyone seeing Hellboy today?

Apparently it just opened today. Roger Ebert gave it a good review. Here's where the commentary can go.
I'm going tonight with some friends, but I'm not really looking forward to it. It looks to be pretty cheesy (LXG style), and the reviews I've seen haven't been favorable. Oh well, if it's even OK it'll surpass my expectations!

That's always a good way to ignore mediocre movies. I haven't read many reviews except Ebert's though; and it was good.

Going to see it tonight with one of my buds.

The critic on Good Morning America gave it an A- and the local critic gave it 3 stars. Plus, it looks cool and it has NAZIS in it. :D
Nazis are always a big plus.

Going to see it in about an hour and a half.

For me it's a combination of wanting to spend less money, not wanting to deal with jerky audience members who always seem to be out in force on an opening weekend, and having plans later in the night.

Hellboy is a really good comic, but alot of what makes it worthwhile is Mike Mignola's unique blocky and moody art style. I'm not sure how well this will translate onto the big screen, but the previews have all looked pretty good.
Well (to me), in the previews the special effects looked like blocky cgi (especially
the tentacled "how big can it be" monster
), so maybe that's intentional?

Just saw the early show with lrdapoc. He's the big hellboy fan. I hadn't even heard of it till hen mentioned the movie was coming out.

It's a pretty good super hero flick. It had some good scens, the CGI did not overshadow the movie, and the story was okay. It was a fine summer flick.

Edit: And I am happy that the previews shown before the movie were not better then the movie. In fact, most of the previews were pretty bad.

I just got back from it. OK movie, bit too long and the last 45 minutes or so are pretty predictable, but a nice effort. Avoid paying full price if possible.
