Anyone seen the Troy trailer (merged)

And, based on what I've heard about the movie, it will be more historical than mythological. I could be wrong however.

Indeed. This seems to be the trend, what with the forthcoming King Arthur also being done in a historical rather than mythological manner. Lots of epic goodness next year it seems. Woot!

Saw the trailer over the weekend and as a 30 second (maybe 60) tease of a movie goes I am so-so about it. Yea, there is Helen of Troy disrobing, Brad showing some leg, the image of a 1000 ships, the walls, the city, and the horse but still no hook to make me want to spend money and see the movie.

I'm a bit suspicious -- Wolfgang Peterson hasn't made a decent movie since Das Boot, and that was 22 years ago.

Brad Pitt's too old to be playing Achilles. The reason he wasn't required to go to war (and thus could threaten to take the Mymidons back home with him during his disagreement with Agamemnon) was due to his youth.

And where's Diomedes, one of the most important characters in the Iliad?

That trailer is awesome. I have no idea how true they'll stay to the original story/myth, but simply on the basis of a great epic film, I'm very hopeful!

Since the only "history" we have on Troy is ambiguous archeological data and Homer's account, the question of whether or not the movie Troy is mythological or historical seems kinda silly.

On the other thread, I also pointed out that since our "history" of Troy is based on simply Homer's account and some ambiguous archeological data, I don't understand the concept of Troy as "historical" rather than mythological. The same is true for King Arthur.

Also: I was disappointed with Gladiator as well, especially since it was the kind of movie that I really wanted to like. I did love the music. I knew it sounded familiar during the "classical" sections, but I couldn't pinpoint from where. Holst's Mars, eh? Thanks for the tip. Although I did also really like the "new age" and Spanish influences -- gave the soundtrack a lot of character.
