Anyone seen the Troy trailer (merged)

I'm with ya, bro. Until I saw the trailer, I hadn't seen much in the way of hype for this film. BUt as the camera panned back to reveal the huge fleet of ships, my first thought was "Right..."
Really? My first thought was "Right On!!!"

Remember, Helen had the "face that launched a thousand ships." That looked pretty close to a thousand ships to me... :)

Did anyone else see this last night before Revolutions? A shorty but a goody. Begins on Brad Pitt's face, then zooms out to his ship, then zooms out and out over a massive warfleet. Nice.

When I saw the huge warfleet I thought "Gee whiz, someone at the CGI department really went crazy with copy-paste"

I thought it fit perfectly...as was said, Helen did have that face that launched a thousand ships...EVERYONE who was ANYONE was out to fight Troy and get her back.

I'm not saying it didn't really happen. I just think that a real BC battlefleet of that many ships wouldn't look like it was copy-pasted.

Somehow the trailer gave an impression of a cheap movie. Just my 1st thoughts upon seeing the scene.

Not entirely. As I understand it, the film does not show any of the Greek deities.

The cast list has Julie Christie is billed as playing Thetis, so that's not completely true. None of the other deities are mentioned, however.

I don't know why people are saying Wolfgang Petersen being the director worries them, or that he hasn't done a good movie since "Das Boot."

Looking at his list of films on IMDB, I see several good movies he has directed: "Enemy Mine," a very underrated science fiction movie; "In the Line of Fire" and "Outbreak," two well-done thrillers; and "The Perfect Storm," an interesting character study as well as a good effects-driven action thriller.

"Air Force One" was entertaining, but nothing special, as was "Shattered." But over all, his track record is a positive for "Troy," not a negative. He's shown an ability to use good actors in interesting ways in his movies, and he usually doesn't let the special effects overwhelm the story or the performances.

I haven't looked at his bio, but you're right. There are several good movies there. Enemy Mine was great. A little cheesy by today's standards, but still great.

Personally, I'm expecting Troy to be a great film. If I see it and it's not...oh well. Wouldn't be the first time I've been disappointed. In the meantime, I'll just look forward to it. :)

Thetis may not be divine in this version of the story. Just sayin'.
