Just picked this up. Haven't even had a chance to install it yet. Never played any of the other Battlefield games, but have heard good things?
Anyone else gonna try this?

I was a big BF series fan up through BF2. BF2 was fun for a while, but at some point, getting the game to work right, and finding a decent server with cooperation-minded players, got to be more work than play. I'm taking a pass on this one.

I heard its filled with spyware and tracks your IP to know what ads to show in game. Off course seems strange to me to have products for 20th century ads in a game that takes place in 2142.

Quoted from Ctrl-Alt-Del:

Yes, I know about the IGA software in the game. (I'd link to an article about it, but I can't find any so-called news sites that aren't being sensationalist about this, calling it spyware and "OMGZ EA is watching the porn I surf", and I choose not to support that kind of crap).Frankly, I don't care. I don't care about in-game advertising, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I also don't care about the software which delivers the ad content, which everyone is calling "spyware" and boycotting EA over, even though it doesn't collect ANY personal or private information. It's fine if you have a problem with it, but I don't.

My problem with it is they don't tell you about it until you open the box and see the disclaimer sheet included. Then if you hsve an issue with it, you can't bring the game back because you opened the box.

gahh....I already have he game installed....didn't even notice the disclamer sheet...guess I should read that stuff first;(
If all it does is put up in game adds....I can live with that. I'll watch and see what becomes of this after the hype settles, and if the software is still considered an issue, I'll delete it.
With that said? is anyone else gonna play? ;)

The hype is, of course, just hype.

"ZOMG! BF2142 is watching how I look at the ads that are already in the game?! WTFBBQ they are tracking my IP address!!!" (which they are already doing since you have to log into their server).

Now, I am a pretty big privacy advocate, but this has been a whole bunch of overblown, knee-jerk, factless reactionism.

As far as ads in game? I have to admit that I haven't even noticed them yet.

Oh, and yeah, I am playing.

I did not get into the first two BF games, since historical or contemporary combat syms are not my cuppa.

But once it hits SciFi or Fantasy, I'm good to go! So I have been looking forward to BF 2124 quite a bit.

And while I understand that it is the third in a series, would it have killed them to put in some sort of tutorial?! I've managed to get pretty good with the vehicles, but simple things like grenades are still giving me some problems.

yeah...that's my problem too. I didn't play either of the others for the same reason you didn't. And now that I'm playing I'm finding that the game is alot of fun, it's just that I suck at it;) I figure that the first week or so will be a harsh learning curve, as ther is no tutorial.
I noticed that even the instruction manual has the base assumption that you have already played their other games.
