AoO question

Ok, sorry if I seemed nitpicky. It just seems that the original poster was having some problems with it so I just wanted to make sure he realized that.

AoO

Thanks about all the help and sorry for not being very specific as to what I wanted. All right when you say the opponent gets an attack of oppurtunity from moving through an opponents attack zone, is this specificly through or just into. And what about AoO with reach weapons. Any help would nice and thanks for all the help already given.

First, be aware that the first printing of the player's handbook has a nasty typo in the attack of opportunity section that completely confuses the whole issue. IGNORE THE BOOK'S DESCRIPTION! (or better yet, download the errata for the PhB and make the changes in your book in pencil).

Second, it's only when you leave a threatened square that you incur an AoO -- never when you enter a square.

Of course, if you fight an ogre, remember that he has 10' of reach. If you want to stab him with your halfspear, you'll have to approach him. When you move from 15' away from him to 10' away from him, you enter a square he threatens. This doesn't incur an AoO.

But when you move from 10' away from him to 5' away from him, you leave a square he threatens, even as you enter another square he threatens. Since you're leaving a threatened square, he gets an AoO against you.

It's only leaving a threatened square that incurs an AoO, and they get their AoO before you've finished leaving the square.

Just out of. Not into.
