Well, yes and no. If all you do is move during your action, the space you started in is not considered threatened. If you then run through another person's threatened area, then they get an AoO. That's all I can think of in terms of the rules about what you're saying.

Where does it say that ?

Well, i does say that if all you do is move, the square you start in is not considered threatened.

Since running is a full round action, all you do in a round is move when you run (unless hasted of course).

So running would indeed help you escape an AoO from opponents threatening the square you start in. If you run through other threatened areas, you'll receive AoO as normal though.

Please note the '(not run)', okay. (PHB, page 122)

Here is the quote

From the SRD

Provoking an Attack of Opportunity by Moving

If all a combatant does is take a normal move or a double move (not a run), the space that the combatant started out in is not considered threatened.

but if all you do is move to a spot where you can wedge yourself under the stairs and you have your shield spell up cause you only have 3 hit points left and there are still 4 or 5 decent level fighters left a few of which are raging barbarians and you have a low armor class because you are shipwrecked on a primnitive island (thank god you got rid of the shaman first) with out your spell book or equiptment. it can be very useful not to take the attack of Oportunity

'course, the Shield spell (as written) would prevent the AoOs anyway...
