Sounds good, but if they haven't removed "standing up from prone" in the AoO-provoking list, then it sucks :D

Tell me about it. I hate that tripping is more feared than a regular attack. Which is more scary in real life- someone trying to trip you with a halberd or someone trying to lop your head off with one?

I like the sound of that change. Attacks of Opportunity are a really good idea in theory, but their implementation in 3rd edition and d20 Modern leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully, most combat maneuvers will not provoke attacks of opportunity.

To a trained fighter? I'd say the first... I mean if they get you on the ground, they have an advantage.

I think the list can be dramatically pared down pretty easily: Movement provoking is important; if someone tries to run past me, I should able to whack them. All the pulling items out/putting them away ones can go away. Using ranged weapon in a threatened area - I guess you could argue that having the bow in your hands and therefore being unable to threaten constitutes penalty enough... I could see that staying. Most of the others I can do without, and I'm someone who likes the overall AoO system.

I really hope they do a good job cleaning up AoOs - that bit about removing exceptions gives me hope (specifically wrt reach & cover). They're a good concept, but in 3e I find their lack of elegance disturbing.

Well, I would like special maneuvers to be worthwhile. As it currently stands its

"I trip you."
"I get up."
"I trip you again."
"I get up again."

Maybe if tripping dazed you as well, or had something useful

Not necessarily. If you are busy fighting thing 1, why should you be able to attack thing 2 when it moves past you? And if you do attack thing 2, shouldn't thing 1 get an AoO on you since you're distracted?

I would prefer that they had gotten rid of AoO's completely.

All you need is Improved Trip and it's more like-

"I trip you and get a free attack while you're prone."
"I get up."
"I trip you and get a free attack while you're prone again."
"I get up again."

Ad nauseum, it's really annoying.
