Aquaman Movie?

In the comics, Aquaman lost his hand in battle with a super-villain named Charybdis, who plunged Aquaman's hand into a river of pirahna. Aquaman's telepathic powers had been stolen by the bad guy earlier.

In the cartoon, he lost it escaping a death trap set by his brother, the Ocean Master. IIRC, he was chained to a huge rock, but could only break one arm free. The life of his infant son was in danger, so he took the "A" belt buckle and used it to cut off his other hand, freeing him to save his son.

The JL Cartoon version is IMHO, FAR better than the comics version.

As for the pirate-look, I preferred the version of that look when done by Bryan Hitch (The Ultimates): Hair pulled back into a ponytail, neatly trimmed beard and a silver tiara that stands in for his crown. Makes him look all the more regal when kissing Wonder Woman (just check out the first Mark Waid/Bryan Hitch storyline, after Batman gets booted by the League).

That look + the original orange/green suit = nice kingly Aquaman.
