Aquaman Movie?

I'm a big DC Comics fan, but I have to admit, Aquaman and Hawkman ARE pretty lame. That is, in the context of the Justice League. In their own adventures, they're fine. But with the JLA, they simply don't really match up to the likes of Green Lantern and Flash, let alone Superman and Batman. They contribute little in terms of power, skills, or personality dynamics (this is arguable, but that's my position). Actually, Hawkman works well when his conservatism is played against Green Arrow's liberalism, but that's about it. There are a ton of other heroes who would fit in better with the JLA, although few that can match up to the legacies of Hawkman and Aquaman.

Legacy, after all, is the real reason that they're both Leaguers. It actually doesn't work all that well when these guys are shoe-horned into JLA adventures. They've increased Aquaman's powers considerably since the silver age to try to compensate (greater physical strength and endurance, more powerful telepathy, removed his need to be submerged in water every hour, emphasized his being King and having extensive resources, given him a cybernetic hand), but it doesn't work that well IMHO. Aquaman would work better as a specialist. When there's a problem at sea or underwater, he's THE MAN, bar none. He shouldn't be a regular member.

Hawkman fits in much better with the Justice Society than the Justice League. Flight and ancient weapons are incredibly insignificant by JLA standards. His expertise in ancient history and law enforcement is extremely limited. That's why they powered up Hawkgirl's weapon for the JLA cartoon (plus they wanted another female on the team). Hawkman's and Hawkgirl's story is a good one, but they don't belong in the JLA.

I like the JSA Hawkman. I was just joking about the Super Friends version.

Actually, he comes off even worse in those old, pre-Super Friends cartoon shorts. You've probably seen some of these. All the DC heroes starred in a few of these and they are all lame. As bad as they were, I couldn't even watch the Hawkman one. I turned it off at the point where Hawkman calls his hawk (and refers to him as a "kooky bird", no less), and the hawk lands on Hawkman's head, and they fly into space.

Seriously, there was a bird sitting on Hawkman's head. :uhoh:

At least he didn't slap a set of mechanical wings on a teen sidekick HE JUST MET and brought the kid into the face of danger.

All the while yelling:

"BIIIIIIIIRDMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!11111oneoneone1111!!!!!!!!exclamationpointsgalore!!!!!"

In the recent Justice & Liberty prestige album by Dini/Ross, Aquaman and Flash (Barry Allen) are trapped inside a Russian sub, both infected with an alien virus.

I've read this sentence a couple of times now, and I still can't figure out what a prestige album is. My guess would be the equivalent of a trade paperback (collection of several issues of a comic under one cover) in the US, but I'm not sure. I assume Brazil is involved in some way. ;)

In any case, the plot and premise sound pretty cool -- is Justice & Liberty the title?

Well, while he was a pretty lame character on "Superfriends" and I found the version of the character with a long beard and harpoon for a hand over-the-top, the multi-generational original told in Peter David's "Atlantis Chronicles" was very well done and could work as part of the backstory.

It's a tabloid-sized fully-painted one shot:

The Paul Dini/Alex Ross team also produced these one-shots:
Superman: Peace of Earth
Batman: War on Crime
Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth
Shazam: Power of Hope
JLA: Secret Origins

How the hell did he lose his hand?

BTW, I never cared for that appearance. Makes him too pirate-ish. The only version of Aquaman I like is when he appeared on the Superman Animated Series. He acted like royalty and told the landlubbers don't pollute the ocean or he consider it an act of war. Then his armada of advanced military vessels surfaced to show he means business.

I still prefer the Sub-Mariner.
