Arcana Unearthed or 3.5 PH???

3.5 I will buy from reading about all the changes on the boards and stuff.

AU I will have to look at for a while and read some reviews of. I'm like Merric, I play D&D and that's what I want to play. I'm sure I'll end up getting it as a source of variant classes and such because I like Monte's work, I'm been impressed with the quality of his stuff that I may have chosen not to use because it didn't fit my game (like I got the EQ RPG for the variant stuff and the background); but it will be a little while.

And I will admit my predjudices straight off as well: I don't like furries or anything that smells of them :) I hated when they added the cat people to EQ. Too many years in college of having to endure my room mate's furry anime pr0n, I guess. YMMV :)

I used to buy Monte's stuff sight unseen. But lately he has been wandering furhter and further from the realm of useful. That is not to say that AU will be no good, but it will be more of what I don't need. The reason I will not buy AU is the same as the reason I will not buy book of the rightous, the FFG hardbacks besides TnT and TnT2. They are "useful" but not USEFUL. That is to say I will not use the whole book but only little parts of it.

I think some of the core rules in 3.0 are squirrly. Many of my players have told me that rule xyz does not make sense. 3.5 fixes about 90% of the quibbles my players had. Therefore I find that the 3.5 PHB would be the most useful.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around the purpose of UA. Personally I think Monte is rapidly going into left field and the thing keeping Malhavoc afloat is pure name recognition.

Thats my $357.32

Aaron.

Not to hijack or anything, but I'm right there with you. Long before I found out that erotic furry material existied, I couldn't stand humanoid (I say humanoid because I can't spell anthrowhatever off the top of my head:D) animals. . .I think, in looking back, one of the things that finally turned me off of Palladium was that every setting (and sometimes it seemed like every book) included rules for stupid mutant animals. The situation was only made worse by a player who was into furry erotica and the like. . .try getting him to play something other than a Dog Boy. . .So I haven't been following AU news, does it include furries? If so, that's certainly a strike against it as far as I'm concerned.

I hate Clerics gaining spells and powers from gods.
I HATE Vancian-style Fire-and-forget magical systems.
I HATE a Good/Evil alignment system built into the foundation of the game.

Some may say that these things are what makes DnD what it is. That may be to them, but to me the story has always been more important than the system.

Now it seems that Monte's book will give me what I want. A game free from alignment, where people will have to think about ethics instead of looking to the DM and saying "will killing XXXXX be an evil act right now?". I also will give me a game where spellcasters get their spells from a single unified spell pool, whether battle mage, healer or augur; where the gods do not commonly speak directly to people, telling them what is right and what to do.

3.5 will be online and in a format that will allow me to easily cut and paste into my own house rules as necessary...

3.5 all the way for me.

I'm honestly tired of hearing about Arcana Unearthed.

My next, non-WotC purchase will be Testament by Green Ronin. NOW we're talking! :D

I've already got 3.5, but I will also be getting AU. Not to run the diamond throne campaign, and I won't be using any of the races, but to steal magic systems, new spells and some of the classes.

I'm always interested in rules, and I really like the sound of some of the rules which Monte is including in 3.5

Cheers

Im an AU fanboi. Already have it pre-ordered so it will ship on July 25th. I've been bombarding my group with design diaries since Dec of last year. I can't wait for it.

3.5? Eh. I'll buy it eventually, but the SRD will probably serve until I got the extra cash.

Hmmm, something completely new with variant game mechanics from a designer whose work I admire or a set of changes of which many I don't agree with?

Lemme think for a minute....AU it is!

Seriously, AU promises to be useful in a variety of ways. Incorporate the new stuff into your existing game or start a new campaign in the world of the Diamond Throne. Add to that the third party support that's coming (MEG, FFG, Ironwind, CodeMonkey) means, to me at least, that this game has quite a future.

My copy of AU has been on preorder since the day that started taking them. I should have it in my greedy little hands within the next 2 weeks :)

I'll be buying and reading AU first. It has a different system with new classes and races, and it's been designed by one of my favorite game designers.

3.5 doesn't exactly feel like a must have, must read, must buy book. I've read the 3.0 rulebook a dozen times or more, and I don't feel like re-reading just to pick up the various rule changes right now. That just feels like work to me.
