Arcana Unearthed - Unearthed Arcana?

Would it not be more fair to ask if Monte could not have come up with HIS own name? Unearthed Arcana was a DnD product from years and years ago. It was Monte who decided to infringe on the name not WOTC.

He asked WOTC's permission to use the name. They said okay. So, I don't see how that's infringement, Doc.

Really, the one-sided bashing gets tiresome.

I think that was Doc's point. ;)

My point is that Doc jumps on nearly every AU or Monte Cook thread just to voice his consistently negative opinion, most of the time based on snap judgments without having seen the product. It gets old.

Wasn't aware of that, as I don't follow the AU threads. But you have to admit, that in this thread, the first 'jump' was on WotC for using their own intellectual property.

Y'know, I was going to hold off on buying 3.5 stuff, but I think I'll buy UA (unearthed arcana) just so I can use the acronym and irritate the folks on RPGnet. :D

Y'know, I think they banned me...

I've seen this quite a bit too. People get a little overzealous. It'd have been nice if Monte Cook had addressed it a little more specifically in the interview.

Also, Unearthed Arcana does look a lot more like the original does, as compared to Arcana Unearthed which is totally different. Arcana Unearthed has it's advantages, but it being billed as an alternate PHB really seperates it from the rules expansion that is UA. Add to that the fact that he criticized 3.5 for both changing the basics and dividing the fan base, and said most will pick & choose rules from 3.5, but then had AU contain all the basic rules so that you didn't need to carry the PHB also.

But, that's just my opinion. :)

Then, later, they announced that they'd be coming out with a 3.5 book called Unearthed Arcana after all.

I was so sure that WotC wouldn't use Unearthed Arcana after letting Monte use Arcana Unearthed -- I figured it would be too confusing. Ah well. :o

I think I should write Ugly Archer or Unfettered Askashic or the Palladium alignment crossover for D20 Unprincipled Anarchist. Well, the last one may bring a lawsuit or something. But it would add to the confusion.
