Great idea, I'm looking at converting the Gun Mage from Iron Kingdoms to PF and some of the concepts here will be of great help.

For this, you should also be aware of the Spellslinger Wizard Archetype in Ultimate Combat. It's a Wizard who uses an "Arcane Gun." A bit funky in the mechanics, and I haven't seen one played so I don't know how good or bad it is, but the pictures of it are badass.

As written, it could be used with firearms - all the powers work with any ranged weapon. I could easily see a combination of magus and gunslinger with Int-based deeds and such. Thats where I'd start with a gunmage conversion.
