Arcane Archer Question

I think that the imbued spell would be cast/centered from the point of impact from the arrow. So instead of having an extended radius for 'Detect Magic', you displace the origin of the 60 ft. quarter circle for Detect Magic. So you could Detect right in front of yourself, or you could detect 1000 feet away, but not both from the same casting of the spell.

On the good side, the spell list for "Imbue Arrow" is longer than I originally thought.
Spells past about 5th level are less interesting for Arcane Archer, IMO, because the character is more of a mage at that point.

Burning Hands
Color Spray
Cone of Cold
Darkness
Detect *
Fear
Grease
Hypnotism
Illusionary Wall
Magic Circle against *
Obscuring Mist
Shatter
Slow

I am less interested in damage spells. Imbue Arrow seems more like a tool than a weapon. The true strength of the Arcane Archer is the 'Enchant Arrow' class ability.

You can also combine the use of Imbue Arrow with the 'Phase Arrow' ability and send a fireball into an otherwise enclosed area.

That's not how it reads as written, however :)

It gets interesting at epic levels, if you increase your spellcasting ability. Wail of the Banshee anyone?

Wow...

DM: You see a group of creatures approach from a distance
PC: I imbude an arrow with Wail of the Banshee and shoot at them.

If you want a Divine-based Arcane Archer, just take Bard 2/Cleric 6 to qualify. The abilities do not specifically require the spells to be arcane in origin. Best to use a cleric with the Magic domain, so you have access to AMF as a sixth-level spell instead of eighth.

You could also do it as a Sorceror 1 or Wizard 1 and Cleric 7, but the disadvantage is that you do not get the Bard's bow proficiency, so it would probably only be a better choice for a full elf, not a half-elf.

Edit: Also, take Far Shot and get a bow of distance. Then you can really extend the range of things.

you'd need to be 2nd wizard or sorceror and 7 Cleric OR 1st wizard or sorceror and 8th Cleric to get your BAB to +6

And a Bard2 /Cleric 6 doesn't have a high enough BAB either. You'll need one more level in cleric or bard to get that BAB high enough
