Natural armor bonus +4 or +5? The porcupine cactus (Small) has +5, while the tumbling mound (Medium) and assassin vine (Large) have +6.

CR 1 seems about right.

A few things. I like Shade's suggestion for quill regeneration (3 batches at a time, 1d4 rounds to replenish a volley). I like the +8 Hide bonus. A +4 natural armor bonus is definately sufficient, especially considering that it's Small and fairly dextrous, so its AC will be good for a CR 1.

Also, the infection ability is fine as written, but the name isn't. Infection suggests disease, whereas this is a poison effect. "Irritating secretion" or just "irritant" would be better, methinks.

we can give it a natural AC bonus that high, although the original AC was only 9 or 7 in prior editions (depending on which version you look at).

we can change how many rounds it takes to regenerate a thorn volley, but 1d4 isn't enough. i can live with say 2d8 instead.

I don't see a higher AC as a problem, as plants in general seem "beefier" in 3E.

2d8 might be too much of a spread. 10+ rounds would be outside of most combats at that level. How about 1d4+4 rounds?

the typical weight range for Small creatures is 8-60 pounds. i don't see it being on the heavier side, so maybe somewhere between 15 or 25 pounds?
