Archer types watch out for Relics&Rituals II

Arcanus

First Post
I just bought the Relics & Rituals II today, and I must say it kicks butt!

There are several spells in there that make me want to completely revamp my spell lists for my characters.

Quite a few spells all deal or revolve around guess what????
ARROWS. Quite the additions to any cleric/archers out there not to mention the Grandaddy Arcane Archer.

One spell in particular I wonder if it has errata yet.
It is a Rgr2, Brd2, Sor/Wiz2 spell called "Shocking Missle"
It allows you do shoot a arrow/bolt at a foe and do an additional
1d8+1 hps of spark damage PER CASTER LEVEL up to a max of
ARE YOU READY??.......................... 10d8+10 in addition to your arrow already. I mean WOW!, what gives, this can't possibly be correct could it? Lightning bolt only caps at 10d6 at 3rd level. This also allows no save and not sure about SR either.

Anyway some more arrow like spells:

Missle Storm changes your arrow fired into a cone of arrows. anyone in the cone watch out.

Ricochete causes your missle to strike multiple opponents in a round. Very Dangerous. This is available to Clerics also.

Spectral Archers this conjures a volley of arrows to blanket an area. Can anyone say "I'll take the hundred on the left you take the hundred on the right"

Not to mention the old Relics&Rituals spell Liliandel's Fury changing one fired arrow into several. OUCH

CLERIC ARCHERS will find this 2nd level cleric spell really handy
Force of Will it will allow you to use your Wisdom mod as a substitute for another ability modifier for duration of the spell.

Please voice opinons on the book in this thread and mention anything that you also think is unbalanced or vague.

I personally am quite disappointed with R&R2. R&R had a few spells that were apparently unplaytested, but R&R2 has tons. Most of them are in the list of spells you mentioned. That shocking arrow thing is outrageous (it lasts until discharged, which means you can fill a quiver with those things).

Ricochet isa nice idea, but it is overpowered as well, because it is instantaneous, meaning you cast it Tuesday, then use that arrow on the 4th anniversary of the casting.

I'm still debating allowing Mass True Strike (+20 for one creature per level). It lasts until their next attack roll, and as written could be cast on Monday and used the following Sunday.

All that being sid though, R&R2 has some good ideas in it, it just needs to be watched carefully.

What do you think of Stone Bolt?

Seems a little Atom Bomb like doesn't it?
Full damage plus 2 additional side effects based on Fort and Ref saves.

Wasn't this the book where people were asked to submit spells and the like?

It does seem alot like home brew spells (at least some of the ones I have seen in the past were very potent for their level)

Actually, on the S&S website's forum (go to the site, click on forums from the menu bar on the left, choose the read-only option if you don't have an account, choose scarred lands - there is a thread titled Shocking Missle or something like that), they list the first official errata to be a correction on Shocking Missle. max is only supposed to be 1d8+10 (not 10d8+10 as noted)

just a tid-bit of info :-)

Edit: Note, I have yet to see all the book so I can not add much to the conversation on the others you mention

This is correct. Also someone (I think the author of the spell) mentions that it's meant to be like Shocking Grasp, but for an arrow - hence the "til discharged". So you might want to think about that too.

Yeah the thread at S&S explains it alot better.
Makes alot more sense now on the shocking missles.

Still wondering about other spells in the book.
I always take spells (offensive wise) that have no saves or 1/2 damage saves. The former first. If I am going to cast, draw attention to myself and anger some foe then I better darn well make sure that they will be hurt by it.

There are alot of spells that I think just rock.
Lots of Buffing spells, But I really try not to take too many of '
those so party members don't abuse me like a nicotine habit.
