If your DM is not permitting Mighty bows, then Archery is a much less viable path. Even on my 10th level archer with magic buffs up the +4 dam from the mighty bow is 40-50% of the damage bonus.The weapon mastery feats (from PHB II) at higher level are terrific, but that's not til lvl 9 or 10.

A dip into ranger is a good idea for the bonus feats (archery path), skills and favored enemy. Sounds like the DM won't let you take anything useful for the Favored enemy though.
 

Some archery feats:

PBS
precise shot
far shot (the worst of the bunch)
weapon focus (ranged weapon)
gr. weapon focus (ranged weapon)
weapon spec
gr. weapon spec
rapid shot
Imp. rapid shot (CW) - no -2 penalty any more
Imp. precise shot - no miss chance
Sharp Shooter (CW) - something to do with cover
Ranged Weapon Mastery (PH II) - +2 to hit/dmg, +20 ft to range
weapon supremacy (PH II) - Um, you are REALLY good with the bow.
Penetrating shot (PH II) - you shoot an arrow so hard it actually goes through someone
 

We are pretty tactical so Sharp Shooter is a must in games, the foes always seem to have cover from something. Helps a lot...


Ranged Weapon Mastery from PHBII is just icing on the cake....

Weapon Focus +1 Hit
Weapon Spec +2 Dmg
Greater Wpn Focu +1 Hit
Greater Wpn Spe +2 Dmg
Ranged Wpn Mastery +2 Hit/ +2 Dmg
Improved Rapid Shot....

So at 12th level, you are +4 Hit +6 Dmg and you can make full attacks like..

+16/+16/+11/+6 1d8+6 on every shot before magic is not bad.

That's before Dex, and the bow itself.
