Are DMs the Bad Guy -- Getting Kicked Out of a Group

Game with friends. Game with Friends. In case it wasn't clear - game with friends.

If you cannot game with friends, get to know your fellow gamers in outside activities, because it does not pay to assume that because you are both gamers, that you are personally compatible.

But with respect to the stories we have been seeing on these boards, think about two things:

1) All we are seeing is a small sample. Even representatively, there aren't that many supposed jerks out there, if you follow these threads.

2) There are always three sides to a story - Yours, his, and the truth, which is likely somewhere between the other two. We all color our experiences with our perspectives.

Here's another fun story for the boards: I call it "Dueling DM's"

Mr. X brings over a real hand-crossbow, one of those things you get from Soldier of Fortune magazine, and starts shooting bolts into the walls. I mentioned it was probably not a good idea, especially as our host was renting the apartment and would likely have to pay for any damages.

Yea there's a guy you want to DM your game, somebody that uses your house for indoor archery practice. Maybe we should get his side of the story?

"I won't game with someone I would refuse to do anything else with"

That's probably the best advice ever for people looking for a new group.

I have a feeling that getting this guy's side of the story, if what we've read is true, would be something like a scene out of Silence of the Lambs... :D
