Events in the Realms are going to happen a certain way no matter how the PC's do. At least with small individual adventurers they don't tie into the overall storyline.
The size of the adventure has no bearing on the effect of the PCs. A small adventure can have more or less effect depending on the scope.
Just on your statistics there. You don't know what the majority want and you don't know if you are in the minority or not. If Wizards thinks they are going to make more money on something down the road, which I believe they do with regards to the movie and other merchandise, then they are going to say and do anything in order to keep the customers going in that direction, even though the majority of customers may not want it.
This is ridiculous.
Seriously.
Okay, companies generally do what the customers want provided it's profitable and works with stores. That's business 101. If you don't do what the majority of your audience wants then you stop making money and go out of business.
It's ridiculous to presume that WotC is risking their tabletop game based on a theoretical movie they have to know won't magically bring people to the game (because it didn't the last three times), is not a guaranteed money maker (because so many movies aren't) or even that it will get made (because one hasn't been in theaters for 15 years and that one took 15 years itself).
The tabletop game is doing things they think will work for the tabletop game, synergizing when possible with the other brands.
Do you know the largest attitude I have come across with regards to the stuff now? "It's better than having nothing." /QUOTE]
Yes, yes it is.
And yet there is still endless complaining because some people would apparently really rather kill the brand and have that nothing.
Also, if you look at their pie charts then it shows that most people are playing in homebrew and not necessarily AL. AL is there to push the population into a certain direction.
Adventurer's League is always going to be niche. OP is never the norm. But it's still important.
However, AL really isn't done by WotC. It's managed by other volunteers under the supervision of WotC, and the convention play is run by Baldman Games. AL is barely WotC at all.
