Are there "typical" spell lists available?

ColonelHardisson

What? Me Worry?
I wasn't sure which forum this should go in, so I apologize if I chose wrong.

I've gone on and on about how I love having stat blocks for NPCs ready-made and at my fingertips. I've slowly tried to assemble a collection of them, ones that cover any number of stereotypes/archetypes, from city guards to cat burglars to court wizards.

One of the things I was wondering is if there are spell lists out there somewhere that present a typical "spells prepared" list for the various spellcasting classes of different levels. I'd especially like to see such lists for the various specialist arcane spellcasting classes. As I said, I'd like them to be "typical" lists, as these would be for NPCs. Can anyone point me to anything like this? Or even post them if you have them prepared already? I'd be most appreciative.

I bet the quick character generation system in the back of the PHBII has some, but that's a good idea.

I checked the PHB2. There is a section of "recommended" spells by spell level, but not completely filled out "prepared spells" lists. Plus, they don't cover the specialist wizards. Good idea, though.

By the way, I meant to put this in the Rules forum, but somehow wound up with it here. Sorry. If a mod wants to move it because it doesn't fit in General Discussion, please do.

I haven't seen one, unless you count the starting character examples (which only covers first level).

Maybe that would be a good group project here. Get a group of people together and put together a list of typical spells for various levels, specialists, etc.

That's not a bad idea. It could probably be put on the wiki, too, because it is NPC related. Come up with a few styles of wizard/whatever, and get to work on it.

Of course, it's complex enough to almost need a programed interface - given a 6th level Conjurer with INT 19 and Illusion and Necromancy as the unused schools, here's a list of possible spells...

It's complex at high levels. At low levels, its pretty simple (just assume one bonus spell per level, and perhaps designate one spell as optional that is lost if the caster can't use it).

Now that I think about it, the first example of this I remember is from the original Rogue's Gallery. They listed sample spell lists for a couple of lich's and other creatures (Couatl's?).

There's a web enhancement for Tome and Blood on the WotC website with example wizard spell lists by level, IIRC. No specialists, though. Somewhat out of date now, but a lot of work there, if you care to adapt them.
