Are there "typical" spell lists available?

There's a web enhancement for Tome and Blood on the WotC website with example wizard spell lists by level, IIRC. No specialists, though. Somewhat out of date now, but a lot of work there, if you care to adapt them.

Good lead. Also, the DMG2 has a "master wizard" (wizard 13/archmage 5) with a spell list for a generalist and a conjurer. Those could be extrapolated from. I was just hoping that the heavy lifting had already been done somewhere by someone.

I'd look through the various sample characters in the 3.5 books (especially the Complete series) and see the example spell lists given. While those are generally for prestige characters, there are various specialist and generalist wizards (with PrC levels). From those you can extrapolate the spell list for a typical evoker, illusionist, etc..

Rushes off to try and publish this before MrG....beep beep zip tang!

Sir,

The only thing I can think off is the wiki .

You probably did this already, but if you are lucky enough to have had your community supporter account reactivated <sucks in air haughtily and tries to be patient some more...months folks, months?> there are lots of discussions on here about the same thing I have seen "the ideal sorcerer spell selection, the mage, the cleric etc.

<thinks to self I bet MrG's account is reactivated for sure>

You know why I call you Sir?

Because without you and D&D I wouldn't have had the last 21 years of fun.

So thanks!

Is it possible you're confusing me with Gary Gygax? He's Col_Pladoh.

Goodman Games' "The Power Gamer's 3.5 Wizard Strategy Guide" has something like that, although only for PHB spells.

For a "typical" NPC, I'd feel satisfied using only PHB spells. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll look into that.

Just find a Dungeon magazine adventure with a caster of roughly the right class, level, and specialty and use that.

Actually, Monte Cook made an interesting point in one of his Dungeoncraft columns: because most combat only last a few rounds, there is no point in preparing an entire spell list for a caster. Just pick 3-5 key spells and assume those are the ones he casts during the fight. (If the spellcaster has very high Int, you can fudge in his favor by letting him cast any spell on his list, assuming he would have been smart enough to prepare it in advance.)

DMG 3.0 has done out full characters for the various levels including equipment and spells. I found it very helpful to have a predone 16th level sorcerer spell list to grab at need in my game.

I pulled out the old 3.0 DMG, and maybe I'm missing them, but I don't see spell lists in those NPC tables.
