Are unexpected hydras unbeatable?

No more so than planned parenthood hydras.

Last time one of my characters encountered a hydra, the party demolished it in no time flat, and since then, the DM has compared other creatures to it, calling it a joke of a monster for its CR.

Maybe this isn't the place but... How can PCs escape creatures who have 30+speed?
I mean, flying or teleporting are the only ways out?

My next monk character is going to have a martial art called "Way of the Unexpected Hydra."

Hydras are one of those creatures that can become a breeze or a terror very easily depending on the terrain and situation.

If your in a tight room with little room to run, the hydra becomes a lot more powerful. If something is able to buff the hydra, then it becomes really hard to kill as its fast healing is enormous.

Its also very deadly against low AC opponents. This thing could take out a light armored fighter or a wizard very quickly if it gets the chance.
