They were cool back in the day of G3 and the Fiend Folio.

But haven't we had enough now? :D

I am bored to death with Drow.

Back in 1e Unearthed Arcana, some 20 years ago, I played a drow in a small and short evil campaign: two players and a DM, the 2 PCs were both CE drows. My character was a fighter-assassin, and the other was a fighter-mage. The only time I did play a really evil character. It was a great fun, really. But today, I find drow so much cliché, and always suspect players of drow to choose them for munchkin motivations. Furthermore, I find stupid this trend of "I am a drow, but I am good"...

I wonder, why do people loathe drow, but not, say, ale-drinking dwarves with axes?

Party with dwarf = good friggin' time!

Party with drow = takes your lover, and puts poison in your beer to boot!

There are no drow IMC. The role of the evil elves is more than aptly filled by High Elves. People who call themselves the "High whatever" just reek of arrogant villainy. :D

It's more the type of gamers who love drow I'd say. The same type who always wanted to play a good vampire, a heroic paladin half-demon, a werewolf (as soon as they can change shape at will)...

This playertype is severely annoying. Sometimes they might come to a gaming session and ask: "I've read that cool Blackguard description in the DMG, can I play one? It's sooo eviiiil." Well, that would never cause problems with the lawful good cleric and paladin in the group, right?

Edit: I don't mind well played Drow (see Eboniths storyhour on the Kalamarboard). But the legions of "I wanna play good drow" players are too much to bear.

Kinda, except for Drizzle who is right out

Mind you, in my campaign there are no Drow PCs. Also, I think I have only ever used them once, and that was just an excuse to apply some drider templates to some friends and family of the Dwarf PCs, nyuk, nyuk.

There is ONE good drow in a nearby city, but she is a low-level NPC aristocrat with a rapier - not a ranger/munchkin with a pair of scimitars.

There is no better feeling than "killing the sh.t"* out of some arrogant Drow.
We played half of City of the Spider Queen and we (the players) send dozens of them them into the abyss.

*mental property of (contact), I only borrow it.
