Are you buying a DDI subscription or not?

Said it better than I could myself. But, I do reserve the right to purchase it later if I believe they've improved substantially in a year's time.

In theory if they started running some awesome planar material that was on par with James Jacobs run with the Demonomicon, and it was easily enough adapted to non core PoL settings, I'd probably at some point pay for a month subscription to read them.

... but...

... they've decided to make people pay for "back issues" individually like it was still a physical magazine, rather than a months subscription also gaining access to archived material like just about every paysite on the internet does at this point. That's a barrier to people who might want a little taste now and then, but don't want to jump in for a regular month by month addiction because they wouldn't use it enough to justify the immediate rolling access to the latest updates.

Am DMing a 4th Edition game every 2 months but sticking, in the main, with 3.5 every 3 weeks. Dont really want (or need, I think) to fork out for an online subscription.

Wouldn't a poll like this be more interesting if you were asking the people who actually play (or want to play) 4e? I mean, it's not really a surprise that those who chose to stay with another edition aren't paying.

I thought that the character visualizer and game table are system neutral, and that the idea was that you could play any D&D version on it. Is this not so?

For me, the Compendium alone is worth it now that they added monsters in. It's all about the tools as that makes writing 4e material so much easier. I'm definitely going to subscribe.

.....if that *is* so, at that point, it might totally be worth it to me.

I've got some gamer friends halfway around the nation that I'd love to game with again. But I wouldn't want them to have to jump through 4e to get there (and I wouldn't want to jump through 4e, either).

Probably, I must admit that I do not follow this part of the DDI much. However, afaik, neither exist yet, which leaves us in the situation which I described. Unless you play or plan to play 4e, you have very little reason to invest in the DDI, and thus are very uninteresting to a poll.

Anyway, was just a thought, not an attempt to start a debate over nothing.

Cheers

I have a regular face to face group so no real need or interest in the online tools.

I will subscribe to Dragon/Dungeon. While Dungeon isnt that much use to me so far I have been impressed with the material in Dragon.

I am getting the complete package.
-I have adored Dragon so far, could find some useful content in Dungeon.
-The Compendium means I don't have to buy as many books for crunch.
-The tools will hopefully be handy, and I like having nice computer made character sheets too.
-I may run a game on the gametable, people like Rechan I have already talked to somewhat about doing this when it comes out.

Plus it is extremely cheap for so much content.

As for Character Visualizer and Gametable being edition-neutral. I believe so, since well Character Visualizer is simply a 3D model designer. While the Gametable the DM can adjust how much is done by the system, so you can have almost everything done by the computer (very NWN) or have basically nothing done and do it all yourself (thus working with more editions).
