D&D (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

Do you plan on getting the new D&D core books in 2024?

I think for me, it depends on what is new.

I have zero interest in paying WOTC $100+ for milquetoast errata to fix the design flaws that should have been identified in 2014.

As much as I can understand this sentiment, some issues are only identified in extended play.

The next playtest was massive and a big part resembled the early UAs of OneD&D. Find out what people like or not. What is core to D&D. Given the budget and the number of designers/consultants/playtesters back then, 5e was and is very robust and has comparatively few real issues.

Sure. Make whatever purchasing decisions you want, I just don’t think we yet have a clear picture of what the books will look like when they come out, and I for one am not going to decide to buy them (or not to buy them) before I know what to expect from them.
Certainly possible that any given vote "yes" or "no" today gets flipped by the time the books are on the shelves. Real marketing, with flashy art and new covers to oogle, hasn't begun yet.

Sure. Make whatever purchasing decisions you want....

So, you just asserted that those making a particular decision were "Jumping the gun".

Together, these come out in the space of, "Make what decision you want... but yours is dumb."

Casting aspersions on someone else's choice, and then saying they can make it anyway, doesn't make that aspersion go away.

...I for one am not going to decide to buy them (or not to buy them) before I know what to expect from them.

The choice you were making for yourself wasn't the issue I was raising.

Aren't we also talking about 150$+worth of books rather than adding a donut to that coffee order at dunkin?

The way Amazon prices books? I would expect actual cost to the consumer more like $90-$120.

And, yeah, to some folks that's a large amount. Back when I was in school, that (or, it's equivalent correcting for inflation) would have been a notable spend. I'd have to think about it, plan for it.

But, on the other hand, $90-$120 is dinner and a movie for a couple in a metropolitan area.

We are hobbyists. That a lot of us are easily willing to drop dinner-and-a-movie money on our hobby without much forethought should not be weird.

Am I not allowed to think people’s decisions are dumb? Are we policing thought now?

Amazon book prices often include used copies & shelf cleaning discounts from 3rd party sellers. At 60$/book? PHB MM & DMG combines to around 180. Ballparking it at 150$+ is pretty reasonable.

So, you really don't think WoTC will be offering a subscription service to their VTT, and charging for various in-VTT items?

I think it's pretty clear that that is the direction they're are heading in.
1. What’s that got to do with books?
2. Judging by both thier chatter and by DDB, a paid sub won’t be required to enjoy the vtt.
2a. Even if I’m wrong, that won’t have any effect on the actual game and physical game products. 🤷‍♂️

Taking a hard stand against a thing that might happen is just kinda odd.

Wait, what now? Is the Jack in the Box madness spreading?

(Tacos: Delicious. JitB tacos: Not so much.)

If this was just a metaphor, don't mess with tacos. Some of us are emotionally attached.
I was being sarcastic, refusing to buy a product they don’t even offer.

How do you feel about pineapple in tacos?

Al pastor tacos are among the greatest foods on Earth.
