I remember when I first heard of the new AD&D (3rd ed.) rules that were supposedly totally revamped and reworked to reflect modern gaming preferences.

I scoffed at this and went happily back to my beautifully complex, and yet thoroughly detailed down to listing his best friend as an ally, GURPS character.

Then I went over to a gamer friend's house and he was ranting and raving about something called '3rd ed'. I was like, "Oh, AD&D, blurgh, yet another handbook, eh?" and then he showed me the PHB.

It was then that I had, for only the second time in my life, a divine revelation (it would offend Eric's Grandma for me to detail the first :) ): this would be the edition to end all others!

Suffice it to say, the book impressed me and I wanted it. Being poor, I saved up but my best mate ended up buying it for my b'day so we immediately got stuck into making up characters.

Now I'm firmly embedded as a 3rd ed. fan. A lot of people seem to think that 3rd ed. is popular because it is popular. However, I prefer it because I honestly think it's the best option for me. It gives enough detail so that I can make the character I want without bogging me down and creating a slow playing game.

Anyway, it seems to me that there is a lot of trepidation about the up and coming revision. That's understandable however for once in my life I'm finding myself on the PRO side of things. Personally, I can't friggin' wait. I want the damn thing to be out NOW :D Although I won't purchase it right away, for fear of Demon Princes Ty'po and Err'ata, if the general consensus of the people is that they're relatively fiend-free, I'll be snapping up all three ASAP.

So I was wondering who else is in this camp. Are you going to purchase the revised books?

I choose option 6, undecided
Damn, I forgot to include that option.

If a mod reads this, feel free to change the threetards one over to something along the lines of, "Aww gee, I dunno, maybe, sorta, not sure, gotta consult with me ma... hey ma, this fence is hurtin', which side should I jump off?" :)

Absolutely I'll be buying them. There is no question that the 3E game needs some revisions, not only in the rules department but more importantly in presentation and clarity.

Recent books like D20 Modern, COC, and the Revised Star Wars book do a much nicer job of presenting rules, and clarifying tricky subjects.

I'll definitely be buying the PHB. I reserve judgement on the DMG, but if the item creation rules are much improved I'll probably kick in there. I doubt I will buy the new MM.

I will buy them when I need to replace my current books. Why? Because all of the revisions will enter the d20 System Reference Document on the same day that the revised edition officially hits the store shelves. I will download the revisions, print them out and refer to them until such time as wear and tear forces me to recycle my current copies and replace them with new ones.

This is the most sensible answer to the question, really.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm counting on too. It seems that, unlike TSR, WotC are both learning from their mistakes and listening to what the fans want. Not only do I respect that but it also inspires a certain level of confidence in future products.

That said, the one thing that seems to be a constant problem is the simple mistakes which call for so much errata. I mean, can you tell me of one book that WotC has released that DOESN'T have a file for download from WotC full of loads of errata?
