Don't get me started on TEs. You know how I listed the last five years of my performance in my Big Money* Fantasy Football League? Well, there's a reason I didn't do six.
Six years ago, I had a harebrained scheme. I was going to corner .... the TE market. It worked as well for me as it did the Hunt Brothers.
Yeah, I'm going deep on references today.
Anyway, I learned my lesson. Don't eff with Tight Ends. Either draft a Tier 1 TE, or if they get taken don't bother worrying about it and take what you get. And never draft two- just roster shift when you need to because of byes or injuries. Obviously, if you think that there might be a TE ready to blow up, grab 'em off the waiver wire during the season (I rode Likely to some victories when I snagged him late in '23 at an opportune time), but basically unless you can grab a top TE early, treat the position like a kicker.
Also? If you really hate yourself, take Kyle Pitts. And if you don't, laugh at the person who took them. I actually had him his first year for value, and you think it would have been a good experience. I can assure you- it was not. He might have been the rookie TE with 1000 yards, but somehow he managed to get 1000 yards, as a TE, and only ONE TD. How is that even possible? I couldn't even enjoy the points he did give me, because I was always like, "How are you possibly doing this?" Luckily, the pain of that caused me to avoid the pain of ever drafting him again.
*For some values of "Big Money." As a non-gambler, I view "loser has to pay for a nice venue and food and drinks" and "entry fee of $300" as Big Money. One of the players in the league is in another league that he calls his "Big Money League," and ... um ... yeah, that's definitely more-ish.
Don't get me wrong. I love Josh Downs. I've had him ... at least twice (maybe I've picked him up a few other times) and I know his talent! I love him as a player, and if he's available at the end of our draft, I might get him again. But ... c'mon. How can you possibly build an offense with deep threats, and draft a rookie QB with a cannon ... and then screw up your rookie QB, not give him enough reps, and finally bench him for the desiccated corpse of Danny Dimes?
I'd tell you to feel bad for the Colts fans, but you're a Vikings fan, right?
I'm sure you're dealing with your own trauma. Some of it may have even involved Danny Dimes.
