I try to pull maps from the real world. There are many housing developments that show floor plans for their typical model homes. Quick and easy to find a "new" house to investigate.
I literally just bought Critical Locations (20min ago). On a quick read through it draws a number of thoughts to mind:
1. Why do I need wasted space for summer cottage and large residence for the above reasons.
2. Often maps of seemingly large buildings like corporate offices, convention center, hotels, etc lack the intricate detail that I desire and are incredibly small in square footage. They are not comparable to real world buildings of their equivalent size. For example when have you seen a 200x400 ft cemetary, etc
I want a book called "Mega Plexes" with 4-5 pages of maps per building with descriptions of locations. I work at a hospital and am so tempted to take down the fire escape map and shrink it down on the copier. My only concern is that someone would catch me and think I was planning to bomb the buidling.
Ideas that come to mind:
1. College campus with all the buildings
2. Megamall
3. 30 story corporate building (give me main lobby and 4-5 different office floor plans)
4. Casino with resort/hotel
5. A real hotel
6. Museum (I take a lot of brochures and save them by the way)
7. Hospital
8. Stadium/Arena
9. Nuclear plant
10. Coal Mine
11. Aircraft carrier
12 Big factory
I want to see basements, back kitchens, roofs, service elevators, etc. I want what a SWAT team would have if you were planning on storming a building in a hostage situation.
Masterwork maps: New Glory Naval Base is somewhat along these lines. It's a great book but is almost too much of a good thing. There is so much detail. I have an adventure idea to use with it but after that the book may be useless. I want somewhere in between this and critical locations.
Think hard cover and call it "Ultra Modern Locales" Make it generic for any modern game.
