I agree, actually. It was one of my first suggestions to the designers. But until just recently Fabled Environments (the studio responsible for the maps) was having compatibility problems between AutoCAD and Acrobat. Apparently it was a known bug on Adobe's side that took a full year for them to correct. One of the people in the studio recently told me that the next set was created the old way, but that future maps should be able to be layered to turn off and on the furniture and grids.
I agree that offering various versions of the floorplans is less tidy, but on the other hand at least you're getting those versions.
